Supporting Aboriginal people with voting information & enrolment

The Australian Electoral Commission has released its latest Indigenous enrolment figures, showing that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander enrolment remains at record-high levels.

As at 30 June 2026, an estimated 634,407 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are enrolled to vote nationally, representing 93.8% of the estimated Indigenous voting-age population. This is up from 613,815 people, or 93.0%, in 2025 — an increase of more than 20,000 enrolled Indigenous Australians.

In NSW, an estimated 222,350 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are enrolled to vote, from an estimated voting-age population of 229,281. This represents an enrolment rate of 97.0%, with an estimated 6,931 people not enrolled.

The AEC says the latest figures reflect continued work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities through its Indigenous Electoral Participation Program and long-term community engagement.

While there is still work to do, particularly in jurisdictions where enrolment rates remain lower, these figures show that Indigenous enrolment continues to remain at historically high levels across Australia.
