The Australian Electoral Commission has released the 2025 Indigenous enrolment figures, showing strong progress in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people enrolling to vote. Around 93% of First Nations people are now enrolled, which is the highest level ever recorded and the first time enrolment has passed 600,000 people.
More than 16,000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people enrolled in the past year, with every state and territory seeing an increase. This is important as our population continues to grow.
The AEC says this progress reflects years of working alongside community through partnerships and local engagement. While there is still more to do, these numbers show our voices are getting stronger in shaping decisions that affect our communities.
A federal election creates over 100,000 jobs in cities, regional and remote areas across Australia.
To reflect the diverse community we serve, the AEC welcomes people from all backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and people with disability.
